Supply chain law in the Bundestag: disappointing for environmental and climate protection

Berlin, June 11th, 2021: The final reading on the Supply Chain Act will take place in the Bundestag today. Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) assesses the law introduced by the Union and SPD as the first important step towards more responsible supply chains. However, the law falls far short of expectations and remains inadequate in terms of environmental protection and scope. With a few exceptions, environmental concerns are only taken into account if they are specifically related to a violation of human rights, such as damage to health. Biodiversity loss and climate change, for example due to forest destruction, are even completely disregarded.
