Launched by the Environment Minister, Sarney Filho, on March 7, the National Forest Products Control System (Sinaflor) will be an ally in the fight against illegal deforestation in Brazil. The fully electronic platform will control the process of origin of wood, coal and other forest products and byproducts, as well as trace from the authorization of exploration to the transportation, storage, industrialization and export of the products.

"The system represents a fundamental advance for the management of forest resources in the country," said Sarney Filho. The minister is in his second term in charge of the Environment - he took office in May 2016. From today to Friday (12/05), when President Michel Temer will complete his first year of government, the MMA Portal publishes series On the main achievements of the environmental agenda

OBLIGATIONS

All states of the Federation must be using Sinaflor by January 1, 2018. Under the provisions of Article 35 of Law 12,651 / 2012 (Brazilian Forest Code), the system will contribute to contain deforestation in Brazilian biomes and, at the same time, Develop the economy related to forest products in the country.

The platform streamlines the certification of Sustainable Forest Management Plans and gives more security to the transfer of wood credits to the Forest Origin Document (DOF) system. All the information will be integrated to the base of the Rural Environmental Cadastre (CAR), for a real monitoring of the dynamics of deforestation.

According to the general coordinator of Flora and Forest of the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), André Socrates, Sinaflor will give transparency to the process so that environmental and control bodies can execute public policies with safety. "We are training the system with the state bodies," said Socrates.
