Ontario, Canada - The Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) has announced that battery producers can currently rely on the Used Battery Collection System operated by Call2Recycle to meet their regulatory requirements under the Batteries Regulation (O. Reg. 30/20) issued under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act, 2016 (RRCEA).
The inspection, which was announced in April 2022 following a significant reduction in the number of collection sites, initially found the system to be out of compliance. However, after reviewing Call2Recycle's amended list of collection sites and examining the action plans submitted by the organization, RPRA's Compliance and Enforcement Team determined that the system currently meets the necessary requirements. RPRA will continue to monitor all collection systems for compliance with the Batteries Regulation. Additionally, the organization is currently inspecting battery producers' compliance with other aspects of the regulation.
