As of 1 January 2021, the draft prohibits the placing on the market of products made from oxo-degradable plastic, and of the following single-use plastic products and of their versions made of biodegradable plastic

The Member States are to transpose the provisions of the SUP Directive by 3 July 2021. Hungary regards the significant environmental impact of the restriction of the placing on the market specified in Article 5 of the SUP Directive as a most urgent measure from an environmental point of view, and, therefore, makes its application mandatory as of 1 January 2021.

Hungary recognises that decisive action is also needed against single-use plastic products of adverse environmental impact other than those in the product scope whose placing on the market is restricted by the SUP Directive. Therefore, as of 1 January 2021, the draft also prohibits the placing on the market of, besides the products made from oxo-degradable plastic in accordance with Article 5 of the SUP Directive and the plastic products listed in Part B of the Annex to the SUP Directive, single-use plastic cups for beverages other than those made of expanded polystyrene and of plastic carrier bags with a wall thickness below 50 microns, and of their versions made of biodegradable plastic.
