1,2,3-Trichloropropane (C3H5Cl3; CAS number 96-18-4) is a man-made chemical that is present in the environment as a result of anthropogenic activity. It is primarily used in the production of other chemicals. In the past, it was used as a solvent and extractive agent. Exposure can occur through ingestion of contaminated food and water, inhalation, and dermal contact. Data regarding the concentrations of 1,2,3-trichloropropane in the environment are limited; low levels have been found in a few rivers and bays, drinking water, groundwater, and hazardous waste sites in the United States.
