A settlement has been reached between the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) and various brands and retailers over exposure to hexavalent chromium in leather gloves and footwear. The settlement, applicable until May 21, 2024, exempts products from certified tanneries from requiring Proposition 65 warnings. The agreement outlines conditions under which chromium-tanned leather must be sourced, stored, and managed to prevent conversion of trivalent chromium into hexavalent chromium. Compliance will be phased in, reaching 100% by December 31, 2025.
