Frankfurt am Main / Berlin, November 21, 2022 : With an expressive protest action, the German Environmental Aid (DUH) and the football club FFC Olympia 07 are calling for leather supply chains for sports and leisure shoes to be free of deforestation. Ahead of Sunday's men's team match, players and club officials on the pitch sent a strong message to Adidas and Nike. The jerseys read: "Clean our shoes!". The opposing team from FC Heisenrath Goldstein has also joined the protest.
According to a report by the environmental and consumer protection organization, the two sporting goods manufacturers still cannot safely rule out the possibility that slash and burn, modern slavery and land grabbing are part of the supply chain for their sneakers, sports shoes and football shoes.
