EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety Issues Final Opinion on Silver Zinc Zeolite in Cosmetic Products

The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) has released its final opinion on the safety of Silver Zinc Zeolite (CAS No. 130328-20-0, EC No. 603-404-0) when used as a preservative in cosmetic products. The opinion, SCCS/1650/23, was adopted on 21 December 2023.

Conclusion of the Opinion:

1. Safety in Specific Products: The SCCS considers that Silver Zinc Zeolite (CAS No. 130328-20-0) with a maximum silver content of 2.5% is safe in spray deodorant and powder foundation when used at the proposed concentration of 1%. This conclusion takes into account the classification of Silver Zinc Zeolite as Toxic for reproduction Cat. 2.

2. Maximum Safe Concentration: The SCCS does not provide an alternative maximum concentration but addresses the safety of the substance in specific products.

3. Scientific Concerns: The SCCS does not raise any further scientific concerns regarding the use of Silver Zinc Zeolite in cosmetic products.
