Young Volunteers for the Environment (YVE) - The Gambia; a youth oriented, non-profit organization helping the youth fulfill their potential participation in sustainable development in all aspects has commenced the fight to end the importation and use of lead paints in The Gambia. During a press-conference held at their office in Churchill’s Town last week, Joe Bongay, executive director of YVE said the use of lead paints has become a global issue affecting many people.

Lead is one of the main health and environmental hazards associated with paint. Whereas other countries have regulations prohibiting it, lead continues to be added to paints intended for domestic use in many other countries like The Gambia,” he said.
