The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is scheduled to assess the carcinogenic hazards of three substances in its upcoming meeting for Volume 137 of Monographs on the Identification of Carcinogenic Hazards to Humans. The substances under scrutiny are:

  1. Hydrochlorothiazide (CAS No. 58-93-5): A medication used for hypertension and edema.
  2. Voriconazole   (CAS No. 137234-62-9): An antifungal drug.
  3. Tacrolimus (CAS No. 104987-11-3): An immunosuppressive medication often used for organ transplant recipients.

The meeting, scheduled for November 5-12, 2024, in Lyon, France, will determine whether these substances should be classified as carcinogens. The IARC's assessments carry significant implications for public health policies and guidelines worldwide.
