Sugar Import Prohibitions and Restrictions

On 8 September 2020, the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry published Decree No. 420 of 2020, thereby extending the prohibition of the importation of white sugar for another three months. Pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 259 of 2020, the measure had initially been valid for three months since 4 June 2020. 

Registration of Business Entities with the National Food Safety Authority

The document entitled Registration of Business Entities with the National Food Safety Authority has been enhanced with information on the import licence, which will be issued after successful registration, amongst other changes.

Inspection of Tobacco and Tobacco Products

Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 549 of 2020, new commodity code lines have been introduced to the Egyptian customs tariff. As designated liquids for the use in electric or electronic cigarettes have been newly defined, the classification of goods for which an Inspection of Tobacco and Tobacco Products is mandatory, e.g. the assignment of commodity codes to said document, has been adjusted accordingly.
