How to avoid harmful chemicals preventing recycling and circular economy

Harmful chemicals represent a major potential barrier to the circular economy. How do we avoid recycling and accumulating harmful substances to humans and the environment when we recycle raw materials again and again? The Center for Circular Chemistry deals with this particular problem and in this connection has published a report on concrete substances that can potentially represent a barrier to recycling in two sectors, packaging and construction. In addition to a quantitative and qualitative study of barriers, the report also contains a catalog of recommendations for companies, industry organizations and authorities to avoid harmful chemistry in recycled raw materials.
