Brazil's National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) has opened a public consultation, inviting stakeholders to review and comment on proposed amendments to the regulation of substances used in plastic packaging and equipment in contact with food. This consultation, announced under draft regulation No. 1,241 dated March 20, 2024, targets modifications to the existing Resolution RDC No. 56 from November 16, 2012.

The proposed changes aim to expand the list of authorized monomers, polymers, and other initiating substances for food-contact materials, reflecting Brazil's ongoing efforts to safeguard food safety and align with international standards.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit their comments and suggestions within a 45-day comment period, which will commence seven days following the announcement's publication in the Official Gazette on March 22, 2024. This process offers a valuable opportunity for public and international stakeholders to contribute their insights and feedback on the draft regulation.
