Berlin, March 17, 2021: Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) calls on Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze to advocate ambitious guidelines for reducing the environmental impact of batteries at the EU ministerial meeting on March 18. The legal requirements for batteries are currently being fundamentally revised at European level. For this purpose, the EU Commission had presented a draft for an EU battery regulation. This is a cornerstone of the European Green Deal. Tomorrow the environment ministers of the EU member states will discuss the topic. The EU battery regulation aims to reduce the ecological and social impact of batteries in all phases of the battery life cycle - from resource extraction to production, use and disposal.
