South Korea Designates New Imported Food Subject to Inspection

Takehome:  Food product containing the Ingredient of Noni imported from Vietnam, India, the United States, Indonesia and Peru is added to food subject to an inspection order.

On Nov. 29th, Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) released a notice to publish the newly added imported food subject to an inspection order in line with stipulations in Article 22 of Special Act on Imported Food Safety Control (click here to see the law) and Requirements on Food, etc. Subject to an Inspection Order (MFDS Notification No. 2017-73). 
The details are as below:

- Imported food: Product containing more than 50% of Noni in powder form (excluding dried product through extracting process using water, etc.)

- Country: Vietnam, India, the United States, Indonesia and Peru

- Inspection item: Heavy metallic foreign body

- Inspection reason: High non-compliance rate
