The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has opened consultations on its scientific report for the evaluation of limit values for nitrosamines at the workplace. Nitrosamines are a family of chemicals commonly present in industrial processes, including the manufacture of rubber, plastics, and pesticides. Exposure to nitrosamines has been linked to cancer and other health risks.

As part of the process for establishing occupational exposure limits (OELs), ECHA prepares a scientific report for consideration by the Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC). The consultations are held to allow interested parties to comment on the report and to support RAC in adopting an opinion on occupational exposure limits.

The consultations will be open until June 16, 2023, and only comments addressing the topic of the request will be taken into account. Any confidential information submitted will only be made available to ECHA, including its Committees, the Member State competent authorities and the European Commission, if appropriate.

The establishment of occupational exposure limits for nitrosamines is considered crucial to protecting workers' health and safety. ECHA's scientific report and the comments received during the consultations will play an important role in shaping the opinion of the RAC on the appropriate limit values for nitrosamines in the workplace.
