A milestone for northern Norway

Today, The Norwegian Government presents a proposition (draft resolution) to the Parliament (Stortinget) regarding the development plan for the Johan Castberg field. The proposition also includes a status for the petroleum industry.

The development of the Johan Castberg field is a gigantic industrial project with good profitability. The project brings new business opportunities for companies in the North and the oil community in Hammerfest and Harstad will be strengthened. I strongly believe that oil and gas will become even more important to the northern parts of Norway in the future. Statoil has, on behalf of the licensees, submitted a good plan for development and operation and the Government recommends its approval, says the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Terje Søviknes.
