The European Commission has initiated a public consultation to refine the indicators used for reporting under the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).

The consultation, open from 16 April 2024 to 14 May 2024, invites feedback on a draft act that outlines specific output indicators crucial for assessing the effectiveness of market surveillance activities. These indicators, detailed in the draft documents, include resources allocated to surveillance authorities (staff and budget), the number of consumer safety reports received, types of investigations conducted, and the efficiency of handling cases by authorities.

The initiative emphasizes the need for Member States to commit sufficient resources to market surveillance to identify dangerous products and ensure a high level of consumer protection across the EU. It also aims to establish a standardized reporting template to simplify the communication process between Member States and the Commission, ensuring that data is communicated in a consolidated manner across all designated market surveillance authorities.
